Novotný on the Marpa match in RFA: Friendly disappointment! When it came out, I didn’t believe it

The new MMA organization RFA announced at the last press conference a fight between Otakar “Marpa” Petrina and Ilja Škondrič. However, Marpo will also fight under the Oktagon banner in May, so many were surprised by the purposeful announcement before this fight. Even the promoter Ondrej Novotny was surprised.
It was already supposed to be a boxing match between Karlos Vemola and Marpo last year, but due to the Terminator’s injury the tournament was moved twice and the final date is in May.
But the problem is that at the last press conference of the newly formed RFA organization, another fight between Marpo and Ilja Škondrič was announced. It will take place at the end of the year.
From Marpo’s side this move can be understood, after all he can earn good money, but it is not very right to deliberately introduce this fight before the Oktagon tournament where he is to appear.
“This is such a man and friend disappointment for me. Marpa’s manager has essentially deceived us. We had agreed on everything between us and then all of a sudden they started pushing, they wanted to sign a contract, so we scratched that in a hurry. And then this is what came out,” Novotny said on his MMA Flight Through the World podcast.
“When it came out (Marpa’s fight with Škondrič), I didn’t believe it. I understand that Marpo wants the money and he wants to capitalize on the form, but I don’t understand anymore that he got pushed into this and announced it before May, even though he’s not scheduled to appear in the RFA until December… It doesn’t make any sense,” he added.
In short, it’s not about the match per se for the most part, it’s just the purposeful announcement. The RFA still has a lot of work to do, and poking fun at the Octagon doesn’t help it in many ways in the eyes of the fans.
