Novotny leaned on Jungwirth: Didn’t he know about the five-round fight? When you’re a phlegmatic, you learn some things at the last minute, he said
The highlight of the Oktagon 55 tournament was the fight between Christian Jungwirth and Robert Pukac. After a five-round battle, the German was the winner, but he admitted afterwards that he didn’t know the match would be five rounds. Promoter Ondřej Novotný now reacts to his words.

The Oktagon 55 tournament was aimed at a German audience, yet it featured several local fighters. Lucia Szabová celebrated an important victory after her return, Jakub Bahník, Karol Rysavy and Robert Pukač fell, however.
Pukac even got to see the main event when he went up against big favourite Christian Jungwirth. And Pukac proved once again that he will hold on until the end of the limit. Jungwirth, however, kept the match close and eventually won on points.
After the fight, the German expressed his respect for his opponent and talked about how he only learned after the weigh-ins that the fight would go five rounds. Because of this, he and his team had to change tactics. Now the promoter himself decided to react to his words.
Novotný on Jungwirth
“It’s a terribly strange thing. We started talking about it the day before. I even told his manager, but all the main fights, unless they’re announced a short time before the fight, it’s five times five. Everybody knows that and it’s the history of the Octagon.
It’s been on the graphics, it’s been talked about everywhere and it’s been in our documents. Even the fight contract, which is sent out about eight days before the tournament because there are two contracts for one fight, has that in it. But when you’re a phlegmatic, you learn some things at the last minute.
Okay, I take some of it out on us, but it’s true. All of a sudden my manager called me on Friday and asked if it was five times five,” Novotny told MMA Flight of the World. So his fighter’s words certainly didn’t please him.
Given Jungwirth’s win, this situation will understandably not be resolved any further and the whole affair will fizzle out in a while. But it’s surprising that there has been this strange communication noise.
