Novotny admitted that hosting an Oktagon tournament in Germany is not a honeypot. Why didn’t the public weigh-in work out and what are the risks?
It’s right here. Oktagon is hosting the first tournament outside the Czechoslovak borders tonight. Frankfurt, Germany will host the OKTAGON 33 tournament. However, the promoter of the organization admitted that it is not and will not be easy to make it in Germany.

A big day for the Czechoslovak MMA scene, a big day for the German MMA scene and most importantly a big day for Oktagon. Our biggest organization is heading abroad and organizing a tournament called OKTAGON 33 in Frankfurt.
The tournament will feature the biggest stars of German MMA, but Karlos Vémola and Ivan Buchinger, stars and legends of the Czechoslovak scene, will also be there.
However, MMA in Germany is definitely not as far away as it is here. After all, we have already informed you about it in an interview with German journalist Kilian Gaffrey, who talked about the situation there.
Now the promoter Ondřej Novotný also revealed the various pitfalls. While he admitted that the event is being talked about and that if there were an extra five thousand tickets, they would probably sell out, there are some catches.
“The state authorities, the police and so on have terrible prejudices. They’re making this out to be the 16th century and the Crusades. We try to temper that, but the things they ask us to do are terribly strict. Starting with the fact that if there was anyone under 18, they would shut it down and clear it out immediately,” he told iSport.
Novotný said that in Germany there is simply football that can do everything, while others can do nothing. That is why it is important for Oktagon that the first tournament not only succeeds, but also goes without any problems. We need to make a good name for ourselves.
That’s also why there was no public weigh-in, which we are used to. “No one has allowed it anywhere. It’s not possible. Not even in the parking lot in front of the hall, which we rent and we have rented that parking lot as well. And what they wanted us to do around that just made it impossible,” Novotny expressed.
The tournament starts at 18:00. In addition to Vemola or Buchinger, the fans will also be introduced to Jaroslav Pokorný, Zdeněk Polívka, Christian Jungwirth Stephan Pütz, Christian Eckerlin and David Zawada.
