Maupay secured Brighton a point in the last minute of the game, upsetting Crystal fans along with Zaha

In Monday’s Round 6 match Brighton travelled to London to face Crystal Palace. The home side was the better team for most of the game, but held a slim 1:0 lead, which they lost late in the game. And Neal Maupay, the equaliser, quickly became hated by all opponents in the stadium!

Brighton certainly didn’t put in a performance worthy of their position in the table at the start of the game and a penalty came at the end of the first half!

Leandro Trossard was quite clumsy in his own penalty area and offered his opponent a penalty, which was easily converted by Wilfried Zaha. Crystal Palace were rewarded for their increased activity.

However, Zaha’s behaviour towards the fans after scoring the goal was borderline and it was this moment that sparked anger in one of the opposition players. We’ll get to that…

By the start of the second half, Brighton players seemed to have rested and in the following minutes it was they who were more active. Unfortunately for them, it was Crystal again who were more dangerous and certainly deserved to win.

And now it was time for our hero, who was watching a celebrating Zaha at the end of the first half. That’s Neal Maupay, who managed to equalise in the last minute of the game and get the whole stadium fired up.

For this gesture, very similar to Zaha’s in the first half, he made the fans go red!

Zaha was just as frustrated, as Maupay walked past him and laughed in his face, which the skilful winger found very hard to take.

In a post-match interview, Thierry Henry himself asked Maupay about what happened between the two footballers.

“At the end, when I scored the goal, I looked at Zaha and smiled at him because I saw him celebrating the penalty he converted in the first half in front of our fans. I’m not going to say what he said to me or what I said to him, but you know what it’s like sometimes on the pitch between opponents,” the Brighton hero responded.

The referee then had to calm the situation at the end with two yellow cards for goalkeeper Robert Sanchez and midfielder James McArthur.

The home team players will definitely be sadder about the point, and not only because of the goal conceded in the last minute. They were the better team in this match and deserved the three points.
