Mateusz Legierski wants fame and millions: I’m a Tipsport Gamechanger favourite, it’s a special project
The OKTAGON 54 gala evening will take place on March 2, where the second year of the Tipsport Gamechanger project will kick off. The whole event will offer two Czech-Polish derbies. In the main match, Patrik Kincl and Piotr Wawrzyniak will battle for the title, while Mateusz Legierski and Matouš Kohout will battle it out in the million-dollar pyramid. What does Legierski have to say before the action starts?
The OKTAGON 54 gala evening will take place on March 2, where the second year of the Tipsport Gamechanger project will kick off. The whole event will offer two Czech-Polish derbies. In the main match, Patrik Kincl and Piotr Wawrzyniak will battle for the title, while Mateusz Legierski and Matouš Kohout will battle it out in the million-dollar pyramid. What does Legierski have to say before the action starts?
He’s a former Oktagon champion. He was the first ever lightweight king in the Czechoslovak organization. So far he is the only Pole who has come here to claim the rightful title. Moreover, Mateusz Legierski has not yet felt the bitterness of defeat in the Oktagon.
So when it was announced that there would be a second edition of the Tipsport Gamechanger lightweight project, it was clear that it was not to be missed. It’s a great opportunity for him. To make money, to measure his strength with the European top and to make history.
“My contract in the Oktagon was coming to an end and I was offered a continuation. We high-fived Ondrej Novotny to extend our cooperation and so here I am. I’m happy that I can compete with Europe’s top,” said Mateusz Legierski in an interview with Ruik.
“Tipsport Gamechanger is a packed and strong tournament. I have another goal. I watched the first edition and it was excellent. Pyramid is something special,” reports the Polish fighter.
I want money and to become famous in Europe, Mateusz Legierski is clear
“I want to prove my name and make my way among the best. Besides, Tipsport Gamechanger can earn me enough euros for my wallet and make me famous all over Europe,” says the former champion of the organization.
In the pyramid he may come across many interesting names. Stars like Makwan Amirkhani, Ronald Paradeiser, Losene Keita, Daniel Torres and Mochamed Machaev will go into action.
“I will fight any of them if they win their fights. But right now I’m focusing on my first opponent. That’s Matthew Rooster. I’m the biggest favourite. I have never lost in the Czech Republic and in the Oktagon,” he did not hide his great confidence.
Mateusz Legierski is also very proud that he will not only represent himself, but the whole of Poland. But there is a catch. If he wants to go for the winning 300,000 euros, he has to complete four fights in one year. He’s never seen that in his career.
“I’m absolutely fine. I can do it without any problems. It’s perfectly fine. I’ve prepared more intensively than ever before,” he dismisses any doubts.
As for his duel with Kohout, it is worth mentioning that he has already beaten him once. In the summer of 2022, he stopped him in the third round on a rear-naked choke. Will the rematch be any different? “We’ll see, he’s a solid fighter. But I’ll find a way to win. It’s just another fight. I don’t care about history. I’m in the here and now,” he says.
“I’m really looking forward to the fight. I’m happy to fight in Ostrava, close to my country. I hope a lot of fans will come,” Mateusz Legierski concluded the interview.
