Magard ahead of Lopez: I expect a fighter who is ready and coming to win. What is he most looking forward to?
Jonas Magard will want to confirm his qualities on Saturday and defeat the interim champion Gustavo Lopez. The latter is the favorite in the fight, plus he would like to return to the UFC after a win. How does Magard see him shortly before the fight?
Jonas Magard will want to confirm his qualities on Saturday and defeat the interim champion Gustavo Lopez. The latter is the favorite in the fight, plus he would like to return to the UFC after a win. How does Magard see him shortly before the fight?
At the end of last year, Jonas Magard was supposed to defend the bantamweight championship belt. However, he broke his jaw in training and had to take a forced break.
Gustavo Lopez fought Filip Mack for the interim title and confirmed his undeniable qualities. Now it’s time for the match-up and the former UFC fighter is the favourite.
Lopez went into the Octagon with a clear goal, to make money, win a title and then return to the UFC where he last fought in September 2021.
Magard took a good swipe at the American at the press conference, but there is no hot blood between the fighters and currently the Dane is talking more conciliatory. What does he expect from Lopez?
“I expect a fighter who is ready and will come to win. It’s been a while, but for me personally it doesn’t matter because I’ve been training all the time. And now I’m looking forward to showing how much I’ve improved,” he said in an interview with Livesport.
What could surprise him? “There is always a surprise. It’s part of the sport. But I’m mentally prepared, I stay focused on the task at hand and keep my cool no matter what surprises come,” he added.
The denouement of this interesting will be seen this Saturday at the Oktagon 41 tournament in Liberec. The title fight will probably happen tens of minutes before midnight.
