David Kozma’s opponents have been changing almost like on a treadmill lately. He was originally supposed to face Peter Knight, but he was unable to fight so soon after his win over Kaiko Brito. He needed more time to recover.
This presented a unique opportunity for Ivan Buchinger, who could have become the first three-weight champion. But unfortunately, he injured his leg in training. On Saturday, Bojan Velickovic will face the king of the welterweight division of the Octagon.
The Serbian has beaten Jiri Prochazka in the past, has six fights in the UFC, and has also fought in the prestigious PFL organization. This will be another very tough opponent for Kozma.
“I took it also because I’ve been preparing since the summer and it would be a shame to throw that preparation away. We take what the Octagon offered. I had planned a completely different style of fight, I wanted to fight Buchinger in the stand-up. But I don’t think it will work with Velickovic,” Kozma said in the On Sight series.
Velickovic is a completely different fighter in style compared to Buchinger. He’s much more complex, he’s able to win fights standing but on the ground. In short, a real challenge.
“He’s good, but I have confidence in everyone. I don’t think he has the fire in him like he did in the UFC and PFL. As playable an opponent as Apollo was, so is Velickovic,” Kozma believes.
Saturday night is guaranteed to be a fantastic battle that will decide whether or not the welterweight division of the Octagon will have a new champion.
