Kotalík dreamed of winning the O2 Arena after his return from prison, but he failed against Mikulášek. Still, he is grateful and plans to return to MMA
Michal Kotalík has made a spectacular comeback. After his release from prison, he had his first fight on Saturday night and is looking to get back among the elite of the local fight scene. While his dream didn’t come true, he had nothing but words of gratitude.
Michal Kotalík has made a spectacular comeback. After his release from prison, he had his first fight on Saturday night and is looking to get back among the elite of the local fight scene. While his dream didn’t come true, he had nothing but words of gratitude.
One of the strong stories of Saturday’s OKTAGON Underground gala was provided by fighter Michal Kotalik. After serving four years in prison, he was facing a difficult return to the fight scene.
As he himself admitted in several interviews before the boxing match with Václav Mikulášek, he did not have it easy. No one spares him in training and he takes a lot of hits. He knows what to do, but he does everything later. He described himself as a professional in a beginner’s body.
It just takes a while for a person’s instincts to come back that used to be automatic for him. That’s why the duel at the O2 Arena with Baba Yaga was a great test to start with. An exhibition as it should be, an opponent who respects it and a nice performance from both fighters.
Mikulášek won on points, which kind of spoiled Kotalík’s dream. “I imagined that my several years of my life would end with a victory at the O2 Arena,” Kotalik admitted at the press conference.
However, he said he felt good in the match, but the result was unfortunate from the point of view that he was convinced he had at least won a draw. Even Baba Yaga, to whom Kotalik was very grateful for allowing him such a beautiful comeback, would have understood.
And plans for the future? To return to where he feels at home. “I would like to have a comeback in MMA in Stvanica, for two reasons. It’s probably the nicest gala and I finished there four years ago, so it would fit,” Kotalik let it be known.
