Kincl’s replacement Piotr Wawrzyniak goes for the Oktagon title: I didn’t know Cepo, I’ll finish him quickly. I will get the belt and then defend it!
OKTAGON 51 is slowly knocking on the door and Vlasto Čepo will see his title fight. However, his opponent will not be Patrik Kincl, who is injured, but Piotr Wawrzyniak, who wants to get the belt in Babylon and the one in Oktagon. In an interview with Ruik, he presented not only himself, but also his plans.
OKTAGON 51 is slowly knocking on the door and Vlasto Cepo will see his title fight. However, his opponent will not be Patrik Kincl, who is injured, but Piotr Wawrzyniak, who wants to get the belt in Babylon and the one in Oktagon. In an interview with Ruik, he presented not only himself, but also his plans.
The Oktagon title? A big challenge, reports Wawrzyniak
Patrik Kincl was supposed to defend his Oktagon title for the third time on Friday, December 29, but unfortunately he got injured. Vlasto Cepo, however, will not lose his chance. He will at least fight for the interim title. His opponent will be Piotr Wawrzyniak, who took the fight a few days before the OKTAGON 51 tournament.
“I am the champion of the Polish Babilon MMA organization, so fighting for another belt is a big challenge for me. I can’t wait. I’ve been watching Oktagon for a while now. It’sa big and fast growing organization, so I’m excited to have a chance to become its champion,” the Polish fighter said in an interview with Ruik.
“I’m a normal and calm guy, but when the cage door closes, I’m there to win and beat my opponent. I’ve been training judo since I was young, I got my black belt. Later I started MMA and I’ve stayed with that,” he introduced himself to the Oktagon fans.
Ondrej Novotny himself said that he had been watching the 32-year-old puncher for some time and Oktagon had been thinking about engaging him. So now it happened and on such an occasion.
“I can’t disclose the details, but I signed a contract with the organization for a few fights,” Wawrzyniak revealed. So, this definitely doesn’t come as a one-off patch that the organization doesn’t trust and that should only serve as fodder for Cepo.
And how did he hear about the offer to fight for the Oktagon title? “I got a call from my manager saying that Patrik Kincl got injured and that I could fight in his place. I just looked at the opponent and I immediately nodded it off. I’m a strong fighter, the champion of Babylon. That’s probably why the boss of the Oktagon was watching me.”
I didn’t know Cepo, the fight will be over quickly
Title fights normally last five rounds. So finding someone who can get them done, in such a quick time, is not easy. Piotr Wawrzyniak, however, has been in training and so will be basically 100% ready.
“I am in good shape. I was preparing for the KSW 89 fight, for which I was selected as an alternate. Moreover, it was a middleweight fight,” expressed the Babylon champion.
“I like to finish my opponents before the limit. Of course I am ready for five rounds. However, neither I nor Cepo fight for the vast majority of the rounds. I would bet on the fight ending quickly.”
One thing worth noting, however. “To be honest, I didn’t know Vlasto when I accepted the fight. But I’m making up for it. Like I said, I’m excited to fight for another title. I’m going to win it and then defend it as well. I want another title for my collection,” Wawrzyniak reported.
“From what I’ve seen, Vlasto can unleash chaos in the standup. But I’m also very good at this style of fighting, so I think the fans will be happy,” the Polish puncher encouraged the fans.
Not being the favourite is all the more motivation
“I am a fighter who focuses on my work, preparation and training to show the best version of myself. To win the fight as fast as possible. I prefer knockouts. I think the fans will like my style,” Piotr Wawrzyniak described himself.
Vlasto Cepo was an underdog against Patryk Kincl, now he has turned into a favorite. But that doesn’t bother the 32-year-old Pole too much. On the contrary.
“I am not surprised. Czechs and Slovaks don’t know me very well, so it’s normal that they rely on their fighter. This fact only motivates me all the more and my fans will profit from my victory all the more,” says the champion of one of the Polish organizations.
“On Friday I will show what I can do. I think that after I win I will win the favour and sympathy of the Czechoslovak audience,” he added.
Wawrzyniak, however, has already managed to focus on the rest of the middleweight division and admits that it is a division with interesting competition and an even more interesting mix of fighters to contend with.
“Watch my fight on December 29th. It’s going to be a great battle and I’ll emerge as the winner and the new champion of the Octagon,” the affable slugger concluded the interview.
