Kincl also wanted a fight before the rematch with Vemola? The champion explained how it was. Nothing like Karl’s exhibition, he says
Patrik Kincl vs. Karlos Vémola. The match, which was supposed to take place at the end of last year, is scheduled for the end of May. The biggest fight since the Match of the Century. That’s exactly the rematch that Patrik Kincl and Karlos Vémola have ahead of them. But it was supposed to happen at the end of the year, and even though it’s scheduled for May, anything can happen.
Injuries or even a loss that could make the fight very bad. The Terminator will take on Al Matthau a month before Kinclo. For a lot of people, obvious fodder and a completely unnecessary risk. A move that even Kincl criticized.
However, promoter Ondrej Novotny revealed on his latest MMA Flight Around the World podcast that the middleweight champion also wanted the fight before the rematch.
And Novotny’s answer? “You can’t fight because you have that arm, which means if I wanted to give you a quick fight, it’s out of the question anyway. Ostrava is full and you’d have to go for the title, so we don’t really have much of a version of how to do it,” the Octagon boss revealed.
“Otherwise, I was open to it. At the same time, we’re chasing the May 20 deadline, so the Octagon really hasn’t run out of fighters. We had an honest discussion about it and we agreed on everything,” Novotny added.
However, Kincl has now offered his side of the story as well, facing questions from fans asking just how things actually went with the fight he wanted. “I also solved the match because I was annoyed with the situation and I didn’t want to wait unnecessarily. It was about an opponent who is theoretically supposed to be a replacement,” he admitted on Instagram.
However, Kincl also noted that he would have loved to go into the fight, but the catch was that he would most likely not be able to fight Vemola on May 20. So the arrangement was different.
“But there are some things that are still pending and I hope that we will be able to fine-tune them in Ostrava. Bottom line, it was supposed to be a classic title fight. Nothing in the manner of Karl’s exhibition,” Kincl concluded.
