Karlos Vémola vs. Al Matavao: Is it worth betting on a sensation? Almost half of the bettors at least hope so
Karlos Vémola is back in action after a long layoff. Al Matavao will test him in Liberec. But this match is unattractive for bettors. The odds on the favourite are incredibly low. That’s why many punters are hoping for a sensation. But is it real?
Liberec has a lot to look forward to. The first Oktagon tournament will arrive in style and the fans will see attractive fights. We can mention the fight between Jan Malach and Ebrahim Hosseinpour, and Daniel Škvor and Dan Vinni will undoubtedly have an interesting battle.
However, the biggest draws are two. First of all, the title fight, in which we will see some really good fighters. Champion Jonas Magard faces the biggest challenge of his career and Gustavo Lopez is going to take the throne from him.
However, Karlos Vémola is also returning to action after a long break, and judging by the reactions at the public weigh-in, the Liberec crowd is really looking forward to seeing him. His opponent will be Al Matavao, on whom the Terminator will test his form.
Of course, there is also a large part of those who believe in the sensation. In fact, Matavao’s win at odds of 9.93 tempted 45% of the bettors. Over 331 thousand crowns are bet on the Samoan warrior.
There are only two more opportunities on which over 100 thousand crowns are bet. The first is that the fight will not reach the second round (over 161 thousand crowns), the second is that Vemola will win on a submission (over 127 thousand crowns).
Is the bet on the sensation worth it? Vémola believes not, bettors hope the opposite
Matavao has a minimal chance of winning. He looks resigned. He says he intends to show that Vémola has weaknesses in the fight. But the Terminator himself is taking it as an accomplishment that the Samoan fighter will make it to the cage on Saturday night. That just fits the setup of the fight.
But it’s still just sport. Bettors understandably perceive that the chances of Matavao winning are slim indeed. But it’s very unlikely to happen. One accurate punch and the sensation will be in the world and the bettors will rejoice in a big way.
Matavao couldn’t even make weight, he looked exhausted on it. If he doesn’t create a sensation and win, that’s probably the last time I’ll see him in the Octagon. After all, that’s what promoter Ondrej Novotny hinted at.
Vémola takes his win as a formality and a sure thing. Underestimation from his side is not a threat, according to his words. That’s why bets on Matavao are worth it in smaller amounts, certainly not in thousands. This would be a wasted investment.
