Kaik Brito: I will be the champion of the Octagon! Kozma is great and he’s beaten big names, but it will be a bigger scalp. What are his plans?
Kaik Brito has a big fight ahead of him. At OKTAGON 37 in Ostrava he will challenge the champion David Kozma, who has never lost in the biggest Czechoslovak organization. In an exclusive interview with Ruik, the Brazilian fighter praised Kozma. Among other things, he returned to the fight with Petr Knížet and also spoke about the interest of the UFC.
Brito praises the Octagon and the Czech Republic
The year was 2019 when the unknown Brazilian took on a then-resurgent Gábor Boráros in a sold-out O2 Arena. Everyone was rooting for the Slovakian star, but the fight had a quick end.
Boráros attempted a takedown, Kaik Brito reacted brilliantly and gave his opponent a knee that caused such a tear that the fight could not continue. After that, he fought three more fights under the cover of the Octagon, defeating Robert Bryczek or Andrei Kalashnik, controversially falling only to Peter Knight.
Now he will go for the title. And in the time he’s been in the Octagon, he can’t praise the biggest Czechoslovak organization. “It’s the best organization I’ve fought in. It has great facilities and tournament reach,” Brito admits.
“I really like the Czech Republic, including the people. I’ve always been well received by everyone and I feel relaxed when I can fight in arenas in front of large numbers of fans,” he added.
Prince? I won the fight, the Brazilian is clear
Kaik Brito won’t see his title fight until December 3, but it could be sooner. Last September he faced Peter Knight and lost the fight on points. The result was much discussed.
Many fans saw the talented Brazilian winning. Especially in the first round he showed the Czech legend his qualities, even breaking Monster’s nose at the end of it. The prince had no choice but to try and check the fight on the ground. However, Brito didn’t let himself go free there either.
But it was Kníže who lost the title to David Kozma. The Pink Panther won the match on points. “I saw their match, it was good. However, I don’t think Kozma did anything better in it than I did. I also beat the Prince,” Brito dismisses the defeat at the time.
And how did he feel watching the fight? “Unfairly, because we know I won. But that’s in the past, on December 3 I will be the new champion,” the Brazilian believes.
Kozma is a great fighter, it will make the scalp all the more valuable for me, says Brito
As already mentioned, on December 3, David Kozma and Kaik Brito will face each other in the main match of the evening at OKTAGON 37 in Ostrava. The home fighter is expected to be driven forward by the great atmosphere.
According to the Brazilian, however, this will not affect the fight in any way: “In the fight with Gabor, my opponent had over 20,000 fans behind him. It didn’t affect me in any way and it won’t be any different now.”
For Kozma, however, he has mostly words of praise. “I consider every other fight to be the toughest one, so I’m focusing mainly on myself. But David is a great fighter. But the fact that he beat the big names will make my win even more valuable,” the 25-year-old believes.
In preparation for the fight, Brito is not only focusing on Kozma’s qualities, but also on improving himself as much as possible. He intends to surprise everyone with his performance, ” I feel like a complete fighter ready to face any situation in the fight. I work hard in preparation so that I don’t put myself in danger in a fight.”
“My speed and precision help me in all my matches. This time it will be no different. But I am ready for all styles of fighting. I always prepare for five round fights and I feel ready. But as always, I want to finish the fight as quickly as possible,” Brito said.
And that Kozma is the favorite in the fight? “My opponents have always come in as favourites. Especially in the Czech Republic. I’m used to it.”
What’s next? A win over Kozma could help the Brit into the UFC
Kaik Brito looks confident ahead of his fight with David Kozma. That’s only a good thing. Plus, he has a reason for it. His attitude is really top notch. And Kozma’s previous opponents have also let Kozma down with their attitude.
Especially Leandro Silva and Bojan Velickovic, veterans of the UFC. Both have been able to take the champion down and get him in trouble. Brito will be looking to outbox them and he’s looking to finish Kozma.
“I’m going to be the champion, I’m going to defend my title and I’m going to deliver a good dose of entertainment to my fans. The Octagon title is very important to me both from a career and life standpoint. I know that winning the title will change a lot of things. And I’ll be ready to defend the title against whoever the organization pits against me,” Brito let slip.
However, he also revealed the name he would like to make his first defense with. Because of his ranking position, he was choosing between Leandro Apollo Silva and Máté Kertész, but he would pick the Hungarian fighter.
“A fight with Máté makes more sense to me because Apollo is Brazilian. A Brazilian title fight doesn’t make sense to me. The Octagon is a European organization, so it’s better to fight a European opponent,” he explains his choice.
However, David Kozma would not be without a chance for a rematch if he loses. After all, this is a dominant champion who would definitely have the right to atone for a loss.
In conclusion, the Brazilian admitted that the UFC is interested in him. “We know they watch our fights. Depriving Kozma of his title can help me tremendously,” he concluded the interview.
