Jakub Tichota after losing the title fight: I would have done a lot of things differently, I still want to be a champion. Will there be a rematch?

Jakub Tichota is one of the biggest talents of the domestic MMA scene. He fought for the title at OKTAGON 37 in Ostrava, but his opponent Mate Sanikidze won on split-decision. In an exclusive interview with Ruik, the Czech fighter admits that he would have done a lot of things differently in the fight.
At 23 years old, he has the biggest challenge of his career behind him. Jakub Tichota was given the opportunity to fight for the title, but Mate Sanikidze beat him. The Czech fighter himself admits it was his toughest opponent yet.
However, in the first round he managed to knock the Georgian talent down. It didn’t take long, however, for him to get the better of him. “The punch landed nicely, shook me up, but I recovered quickly,” Tichota recalls of the critical moment.
Right after the first round he had to take out his contact lenses. ” They were just scratching me, so I took them out and just went on as normal.”
In the remaining five minutes it was a wild ride from both sides, often up and down. The evenly matched bout ended with Sanikidze winning by split-decision. However, Tichota stands by the fact that he won the three rounds and therefore saw himself winning the match as well.
Sanikidze dominated the fifth round in particular, but he said it wasn’t because the Czech talent was in bad shape. “I felt great, 5 rounds didn’t bother me at all,” he says.
I would have done a lot of things differently now, admits Tichota
He hasn’t watched the fight with his team yet, but in hindsight admits that he wanted to continue kicking Sanikidze’s legs and look for a way to finish. He failed to do so.
And would he change anything now? “The preparation went great, but I would definitely do a lot of things differently in the fight now,” he is clear.
After the fight, Tichota received a lot of support, which he is of course happy for. “But I want to focus on the mistakes I made and correct them. Fortunately, I don’t have any serious injuries,” he added.
He has no other plans in his head for now. However, if he had to choose, he’s pretty clear: “I haven’t planned another game at all. I still want the belt and to be champion, so I prefer a rematch.”
