Chelsea London have snapped up a great signing in Leicester – 21-year-old stopper Wesley Fofana! The Stamford Bridge club officially announced it a few hours ago on their club website, Chelsea will send a total of £75 million to Leicester.
Fofana first transferred to Leicester on October 2, 2020 from French side Saint-Étienne, the transfer fee back then was 35 million euros.
For Leicester then, Fofana pitched in 37 league games, 4 FA Cup games, 6 Europa League games and 5 Conference League games. Across all competitions, he played 52 games for Leicester with a 1+1 record.
His only goal came in a Conference League match on 17 March this year against Stade Rennes. However, his goal was not enough to win the match and Leicester lost 1:2 to the French club.
But the 21-year-old Marseille native showed his qualities in the Premier League and now he has been eyed by Chelsea, who will send £70 million to Leicester for him, plus another £5 million in bonuses.
In his debut season (2020/21) he was named Leicester’s best young player. One of his best performances to date was then recorded against Chelsea in the 2021 FA Cup final.
Leicester won that competition and Fofana was able to celebrate his first major trophy of his career.
“Wesley is an extremely promising defender who has already shown his quality in the Premier League at such a young age. We are delighted that we have been able to bring one of Europe’s most exciting talents to Chelsea, ” Chelsea chairman Todd Boehly told the club’s website.
Fofana has signed a seven-year contract at Chelsea, making him a very promising future signing for the Blues.
“I am here to win trophies. The Champions League, the Premier League, the FA Cup, the Carabao Cup, everything. I came here to win, ” said Fofana, who was quoted by Sky Sports.
