No leading European clubs have shown interest in Brazilian Neymar. The player himself wanted to join Barcelona. Xavi is said to have turned him down.

The transfer saga has just ended. Neymar is moving to Al-Hilal in Saudi Arabia. The club lost to Al-Nassr in the final of the Arab Club Championship on Saturday.

Trusted journalist Fabrizio Romano announced “here we go” shortly after noon. The Brazilian whizz-kid will move for a price tag that is expected to be less than 100 million euros, reportedly 90 million. He is expected to undergo a medical today.

He will join former Barcelona player Malcolm, central midfielders Sergej Milinkovic-Savic and Ruben Neves and stopper Kalidou Koulibaly at the club.

Neymar is thus retiring from top European football at the age of thirty-one. He managed to win the Champions League with Barcelona, where he even celebrated a treble in the 2014/15 season.

After his transfer to Paris, he did not score any more triumphs in the millionaire competition. When he transferred from Santos, he was predicted to have a stellar future. He was supposed to be the successor to Ronaldo and Messi. Instead, he’s moving to Saudi Arabia to join Ronaldo.

He should have signed a two-year contract with the club and, of course, the number 10 jersey. So this is another big star that Europe has lost this summer.

In less than a year’s time, we will know if Al-Hilal’s transfer paid off and he was able to win the league. A league that’s going to be very balanced this year and packed with stars from Europe.
