Is there any point in retaliation anymore? I put Vémol’s performance in my pocket, says Kincl

Patrik Kincl defended his middleweight championship belt and absolutely demolished challenger Alex Lohoré. Still in the cage, his celebration was spoiled by Karlos Vémola, who got into the octagon and challenged him to a rematch. What does the newly crowned champion have to say about the possible rematch?

Kincl’s performance at Octagon 35 has called for a rematch with Vémola

Patrik Kincl shocked the Winning Group Arena in Brno on Saturday. In the main title fight of Oktagon 35 he completely outclassed his challenger Lohoré. It took him less than two minutes to force the referee to end the fight prematurely.

The absolutely phenomenal performance was a loudly called rematch from 2018, where he lost on points to Karlos Vemola in the then XFN organization. Both fighters have gone their separate ways since then. While Vemola was building his legacy on the domestic scene, Kincl was shining in KSW in Poland.

After Saturday’s spectacular win, Patrik didn’t want to speculate too much about a possible rematch and refused to spoil his championship celebrations. However, Vémola did not listen to his wishes, jumped over the octagon netting and challenged the newly crowned champion to a rematch to the loud boos of the Brno fans.

Kincl told reporters after the tournament that Vémola had embarrassed himself, but did not want to comment too much on the situation. Now, after a short time, he said more, but he probably won’t make his rival too happy.

How does the champion see a possible rematch?

“I don’t know if the fight with Karel makes sense anymore,” said Kincl with a smile in an interview for iSport.cz. “I put his performance in my pocket,” he offered a comparison with the performance of Vemola, who won the five-round match with the same opponent on points.

“The best way to express it was when the crowd booed the dork,” he said of the disruption to his championship celebrations. “It was for me a pathetic, embarrassing, purely desperate cry for attention and I think Karel embarrassed mostly himself, although he probably doesn’t care,” he explained.

The middleweight champion also commented on a possible rematch. “Well, when Karel realizes what happened there, there may be some obstacle, but he will change the diaper,” he said with exaggeration.

“Ondra (Novotny – co-owner of Oktagon) and I talked about it when I transferred to Oktagon,” he said, a bit more seriously this time. “The rematch was mentioned in the press conference after the tournament, so it’s definitely up in the air, but we don’t have anything signed yet,” he added.

The promoter Novotny himself admitted at the post-match press conference that this is the match that makes the most sense in the division at the moment and the whole country wants to see it. The organization would like to have the rematch at the end of December, where the Oktagon 38 gala is planned at Prague’s O2 Arena.
