Already today we are waiting for an interesting Oktagon 39 tournament in Munich. Compared to the plans, there have been many changes, but the quality has not suffered. We have one match that no one expected.
The day before the weigh-ins, Oktagon announced a fight between Vlasto Cep and UFC veteran Héctor Lombard. The fight will be held under MMA rules, but under special boxing rules.
Ondrej Novotny first reported that we can look forward to a fight in the weight class up to 96 kilograms and four rounds of three minutes each. However, in the end, after the agreement of the fighters, a change was made.
“I’ll tell you the necessary thing about the Chepo vs Lombard fight. It has special rules. In the end, both fighters agreed that the weight will be 96,5 kg with a half-kilogram tolerance, that we will go three rounds of three minutes.
What’s most interesting about the rules is that the winner is KO only. So both will try to shoot the other down as much as possible. If that doesn’t happen, it will be a draw,” Novotny said later.
The stoppage rule is really interesting and attractive as both fighters won’t want to settle for a draw and will turn it up a notch in the last round.
So, although there are those who condemn this fight only because it is not MMA, the organization deserves applause for making it happen, which will add to the attractiveness of the tournament.
