When Oktagon held a tournament in Frankfurt in mid-October, we got an interesting announcement. Former football talent and troublemaker Martin Fenin was the main face of a new project, during which he is to become a professional fighter in a year.
The whole project makes sense. It is mainly aimed at the German market, so the organization is not so concerned about what the Czech public thinks about it. On the contrary, for the German audience it can be a very interesting and attractive invitation to MMA.
The former Eintracht Frankfurt, Teplice and Prague Slavia footballer has already started his preparation. He trains in the Gorilla MMA gym in Prague. Josef Král is getting him in shape there. And that Fenin is slacking off? There’s no room for that in combat sports.
In an interview for Sport.cz he admitted that he trains 5 to 6 times a week and that there will be more training in the form of two-phase training. There is no comparison with football training, so the former national team hopeful can still learn new things. He says he even almost throws up during the harder workouts.
“The only thing I’ve ever done in my life with my hands is gel,” Fenin joked. He’s determined to prove he’s got it. “I’m a little scared of it so far, but whatever. If I could get a free slap on the wrist in Barcelona, now I’ll get paid for it,” he added.
Fenin intends to stick to the lifestyle as well. He’s put on a box diet, he’s also planning a full cleanse to lose weight. He’s also cutting out alcohol. According to coach King, he can bite, so it will be interesting to see where his whole journey leads.
