Oktagon 43 and the biggest fight of the Czech MMA scene is over. However, the result of the main fight of the evening, in which Patrik Kincl defeated rival Karlos Vemola and defended the organization’s middleweight championship title, aroused conflicting reactions regarding the scoring of the duel. Vemola’s trainer André Reinders commented on social media, believing that his charge would dominate the eventual trilogy.
The result of the biggest fight of the Czech MMA scene has aroused contradictory reactions
A tournament that has been five years in the making. A rivalry that is unprecedented in the field of Czech-Slovak MMA. Is it over or will it be a new one between the two men?
It took five long years to organize the biggest rematch on the Czech MMA scene. Already the first fight under the XFN banner created a huge buzz and practically a few weeks after the fight, discussions about a possible rematch started.
It crashed several times for various reasons, but now it is history. Patrik Kincl managed to find a recipe for the one-sided tactics of his archrival and after an unusual five-round battle, the judges awarded the victory in the main match of the Oktagon 43 gala to the side of the Inspector.
This drew the ire of more than just Vemola, who left the O2 Arena without shaking hands or attending the press conference. But the verdict of the scoring judges also ignited many industry experts and started a huge debate about the scoring rules of MMA fights.
Coach André Reinders also commented on the judges’ scoring controversy
This was backed up by Vemola himself, who wrote in a post on his social media that he was convinced he was going into the fifth round as the winner thanks to information from his corner. André Reinders, one of Terminator’s Czech coaches, commented on the situation.
“That someone gave it 50::45 (note: two of the three judges) surprises me, ” said Reinders in a comment for Sport.cz. “I think the first two rounds were for Karlos, the other three were for Patrik, although I would have much rather said no. But objectively it was probably like that.”
“We advised Karlos after the first rounds to improve some of the transitions between the strings at the net, which he discussed with his English coach,” he described working with his British colleagues from London Shootfighters.
It was the possible miscommunication with the English coaches, who probably misinformed their charges about the provisional result of the match, that was also discussed. However, the result will not be reversed and Karlos will have to go through an unpleasant period.
In his opinion, Vémola would run over Kincelo in the trilogy
Vémola himself announced in his recap of the fight that his days at middleweight are numbered. So the hopes of a decisive rematch have definitely dropped to a minimum, but it is still very early to make definitive judgements.
And how does Andre Reinders see a possible rematch? “For myself, I think that Karlos, based on this fight and his experience, would be able to beat Patrik clearly and convincingly in a possible third fight.”
“But that depends on Karlos and his motivation going forward. It is a big blow, but it was not a clear demolition,” he added about his charge. Is this the start of a new discussion about a possible trilogy?
