Oktagon announced a very interesting project at the Frankfurt tournament. The goal is to turn former talented football player Martin Fenin into a professional fighter within one year. How did this idea come about and what do the promoters or German MMA star Christian Eckerlin expect from it?

It was somewhat expected, however, the organization did not suggest anything and Martin Fenin denied it in the media. But finally at OKTAGON 36 the announcement was made. The former great talent of world football is to become a fighter within one year.

Isn’t that bizarre and nonsense? It depends. For the organization, the move makes sense for an obvious reason. Germany is, quite simply, a footballing country, and if Octagon is to establish itself in the wider market, the link with football is quite possibly crucial.

Ondřej Novotný hinted at this at the press conference, ” Germany’s biggest sporting community is football and we know it. Martin helped us with contacts in Frankfurt, we know each other, he helps us a lot. We think he will help us to connect the bubbles of MMA and football.”

“This project is targeted at the German market. We have talked about it with Christian Eckerlin and other people. They all said it sounds great. We think it will get a response. Itwill help us attract attention with football,” Novotny is clear.

Fenin has a reputation for being a troublemaker, so it’s no wonder promoters have faced various questions about whether they’re worried about the project. But all doubts were refuted by Pavol Neruda. According to him, the former Eintracht Frankfurt player is an athlete at heart, which is exactly what he was looking for.

The 35-year-old world under-20 vice-champion is also motivated by the fact that even his wife does not believe in him. He wants to prove the opposite to her.

German star Christian Eckerlin also commented on the project: “I have known Martin for many years. Besides football, we go out for a beer together. It will be fun to watch him not only as a football player, but also as a fighter. I was a football player too. I didn’t drink that much and he has to watch himself, but we have similar backgrounds.”

The name of his opponent is slowly taking shape. Rumour has it that there is a big name in the sport. Neruda says if the plan works, it’s going to be insane and a really big deal.
