Slavia and Slovácko entered the group stage of the Conference Europa League with draws, and both matches could have been worth three points given the course of play. However, other results played into the hands of the Czech coefficient.

Europa League

Only one Czech started in the Europa League, as Filip Novak did not make it into Fenerbahce’s nomination against Dynamo Kiev (2: 1). Tomáš Vaclík was of course not missing in the Olympiakos goal, against Nantes he held the tie until the setup, but then the home team broke the tie.

As for the competitors in the fight for the coefficient TOP 15, almost everything played into the hands of the Czechs. Sturm Graz won 1:0 against Danish Midtjylland, Sheriff Tiraspol against Cyprus Omonia and Ferencváros 3:2 against Trabzonspor.

Arsenal’s 2:1 win over Swiss champion FC Zurich and Rennes’ 2:1 win over Larnaca in Cyprus are also pleasing, with only PSV Eindhoven’s 1:1 draw with Norway’s Bodo Glimt being a minor blemish.

European Conference League

There were more Czechs in action in the Conference League. Antonín Barák scored for Fiorentina against Riga, but then made an error on the final goal to make it 1:1, while Vladimír Coufal was there for the Hammers’ 3:1 win over FCSB.

Jaromir Zmrhal and Yuri Medvedev did not prevent Slovan Bratislava’s goalless draw with Zalgiris Vilnius. Apart from the result, the behaviour of the home fans, who booed during the minute of silence before the match in honour of the late British monarch Elizabeth II, was also shameful.

As far as the coefficient is concerned, Anderlecht’s wins over Silkeborg (Denmark), Alkmaar’s win over Dnipropetrovsk (Ukraine) and only the draws of the favoured Molde (Norway) against Gent and Apollon (Cyprus) against Vaduz were pleasing.

On the other hand, the wins of Turkish Basaksehir over Hearts, Swiss Basel over Pyunik Yerevan and the draw of Israeli Beer Sheva against Austria Vienna are not suitable.
