Engizek and a middleweight title fight? It’s going to be a while before Kerim gets a chance, Novotny admitted
The middleweight division of the Octagon is currently stripped. Patrik Kincl and Vlast Cepe will go for the title, but then there is no clear challenger. It seemed that it could be Kerim Engizek, who won the fight in Cologne, but the promoter Ondrej Novotny curbed his passions.
The middleweight division of the Oktagon is currently stripped. Patrik Kincl and Vlast Cepe will go for the title, but then there is no clear challenger. It seemed that it could be Kerim Engizek, who won the fight in Cologne, but the promoter Ondrej Novotny curbed his passions.
Kerim Engizek was the biggest favourite on the whole card as he hadn’t lost in nine years. But the reason for the odds was the opponent Adam Horvath, who jumped in at the last minute instead of Ahmed Sami, who didn’t get a visa.
The candidate for the next title challenger saw off his opponent’s attacks and, as expected, went on to win the first round, sending Horvath down with a hard shot where the referee had to intervene.
Engizek seemed to have claimed a middleweight title fight with this win. But that won’t happen, at least not yet, as the organization has announced it for a February tournament in Oberhausen.
It’s certain that the winner of the Kincl vs. Chepo duel won’t be going for another title fight so soon, so Engizek needs at least one more win, maybe more, for the organization to give him such a fight. After all, promoter Ondrej Novotny confirmed it himself.
Engizek has to wrestle
“Engizek vs Chepo? Congratulations to Kerim, but I still think that Kincl will now fight Cepo in December, Kerim will fight in February in Oberhausen, so it’s impossible for them to fight in February.
It’sstill going to take a while for Kerim to get a chance, we want to push it to be a big event… I have some top 10 and top 5 fights lined up for him and if he keeps up his performances, we’ll get to that fight sooner rather than later,” promoter Novotny said at the press conference.
We can already look forward to the next tournament, which is scheduled for December 9 in Ostrava. We will see Losene Keita’s title fight against Niko Samsonidze, but also Ivan Buchinger against Ronald Paradeiser and others.
