Early termination of the Hosek vs. Naruszczka match? It was definitely not a mistake, says referee Pavel Touš

Octagon 28 has caused conflicting emotions in people. The tournament, filled with the stars of the organization, was overshadowed by two moments, one of which starred referee Michal Popelák. Did he end the fight between David Hosek and Marcin Naruszczka correctly? That was answered by Pavel Touš, a member of the referee commission and referee.
The Oktagon 28 tournament offered great fighters and performances. But some of the fights were quite controversial. But two of them stood out.
Viktor Peshta’s title fight with Stephan Pütz, which was stopped by a doctor after three rounds, is widely discussed. The German fighter was said to have a cracked bone on his nose.
“A lot of people compared the nose injury to Monster, who had a broken nose that was hidden under the skin, which doesn’t matter. Pütz didn’t really have a broken nose, that’s the speculation again. There was a primary problem, I saw it with my own eyes, and it was a cracked bone.
I asked the doctor repeatedly if he was convinced that the fight should be stopped, that it was a title fight. When the doctor says stop, I have to respect him. Thedoctor is above the referee in the octagon,” Pavel Touš told Kaocko.
He is a member of the referee commission and also a referee. A big mistake, according to many, was made by his colleague Michal Popelák, who ended the fight between Hoshko and Naruszczka despite the fact that the Polish fighter continued fighting after the fall.
“His first thought is to protect the fighter’s health. Marcin fell down, hit his head on the floor and apparently jumped. At that moment Michal Popelák was already there, determined to jump. Marcin reflexively grabbed his leg and looked like he wanted to continue, but when he stood back up, it was obvious that he was losing his balance.
This is one of those moments where we won’t know what it might have looked like going forward. This was definitely not a mistake. I had one question for Michael: When you ended it, were you convinced that this was the right way to go?
He said without a second’s hesitation that he would do it again. At this point, it’s the right decision for me,” Touš added. So now the question is how the public will take this verdict.
