Vladimír Coufal will remain a Kladivář for two more years. The right-back of the Czech national team had a clause in his contract that allows the club to extend his contract for two more seasons. And that is exactly what West Ham’s management has done.

Those who know him often describe him as having never seen a bigger workhorse. Vladimir Coufal has not been blessed with a god-given footballing talent, yet he is a regular in the best league in the world.

He is an extreme hard worker who sacrifices a lot for football. Through Hlučín, Opava and Liberec, he made it to Slavia, where he quickly became the best back in the league and ousted the Bundesliga’s Pavel Kadeřábek from the national team.

Since he has big ambitions, he literally begged the Slavia management to let him go abroad. In September 2020, after losing to Midtjylland, the Sevivans agreed and sold Coufal to West Ham for €6 million.

The tireless right-back immediately slotted into the starting line-up and Hammers fans fell in love with him. He is exactly the type of footballer they like in England – a hard worker and a fighter who never misses a single tackle and slipping is definitely not a dirty word for him.

He had a bit of a turbulent time during the past season, often being sidelined by injury, he also dropped out of the squad in the autumn and there was even talk of him leaving London.

However, in the spring he won his place back in the line-up and with his performances he earned the fans’ favour again. In June, he will have the opportunity to improve on a botched league season by triumphing in the Conference League at home in Prague.

Coufal will be able to go into the final in Eden with the peace of mind that this will not be his last game in a Kladivář jersey.

West Ham journalist Roshane Thomas from one of the top sports websites The Athletic has come up with the news that West Ham have activated a clause in Coufal’s contract that will extend the 30-year-old defender’s contract for another two years.
