Coufal has won the Hammers fans back. They admire his tremendous fighting spirit for the club
West Ham drew 1-1 at Newcastle on Saturday. In the previous two seasons it would probably have been a loss for the Hammers, but this year it is a big point given the form of both teams. It was underpinned by a very good performance from Vladimir Coufal. And for the first time in a long time he received praise from the fans.
West Ham drew 1-1 at Newcastle on Saturday. In the previous two seasons it would probably have been a loss for the Hammers, but this year it is a big point given the form of both teams. Vladimir Coufal had a very good performance. And for the first time in a long time he received praise from the fans.
West Ham went behind very quickly through Callum Wilson’s goal, but after a hectic opening ten minutes they got back into the game and in the 32nd minute Lucas Paqueta equalised from a set piece to make it 1-1.
For the rest of the game, the game was evenly matched, but it was mainly the home team that got into scoring positions. However, David Moyes’ defence was as good as ever and defended a fair 1-1 draw.
“Coufal and Aguerd were solid today. Can’t wait for both to score their first goal in a Hammers jersey,” wrote fan Reece under the post-match interview with Coufal on West Ham’s YouTube.
And Reece captured two facts in a few words. Coufal and Nayef Aguero held the visitors’ defensive line, but at the same time both are waiting for their first goal since the transfer. The Moroccan stopper has only been at the club for six months, but Coufal is already curling his third season with the hammers on his chest.
Defensively, Coufal has not disappointed at Newcastle. He made five defensive saves, stopped two dribbles and blocked one shot. He put all his energy into the game, as is his wont.
“He was so good today. He always puts everything into the game and knows what the club stands for. I’ll never forget how he came out to the fans after the Frankfurt game. Aniconic moment,” recalled Old Greggs user Creamy baileys in one of the most liked comments under the video the situation after West Ham’s exit in the Europa League semi-finals last year.
Fans of the German side stormed the pitch and while all David Moyes’ players fled to the stands, Coufal went to applaud in front of the away sector. It is the passion of those in England that he admires most. And you can see it in his interview, in which he praises the great Newcastle fans and the hostile atmosphere.
“I lived in Newcastle for six years and had a season ticket in the 90s. Vlad just defined a good football fan. He has to be fanatical and able to create a hostile atmosphere,” praised the Czech international’s perception of John.
And there was more praise for Coufal, as if the defensive misses he regularly made in the autumn had been forgotten. But he won over the Hammers fans at St James’ Park with the intensity of his play. Even a BRAW records user applauded. “Fans who have criticised him in recent months should be ashamed of themselves. This guy always plays at a million percent.”
