Controversial victory of Juráček? I did more to win, says Pukač. Not even Novotný saw Juráček’s win
It should have been one of the biggest draws of the entire card of the last tournament of the year. Instead, the fans were treated to an extremely over-hyped battle, the outcome of which is also controversial. How did both fighters and the public see the fight?
It should have been one of the biggest draws of the entire card of the last tournament of the year. Instead, the fans were treated to an extremely over-hyped battle, the outcome of which is also controversial. How did both fighters and the public see the fight?
Matúš Juráček and Robert Pukač faced each other on the main card of OKTAGON 30. An interesting battle was expected, but instead it was a less attractive and very tactical spectacle.
Yuracek was the one who held the center of the octagon in the first round, but it was impossible to say that he was much of a threat to Pukac. For the next two rounds Pukac gradually took the reins, but even he didn’t trouble his opponent much except for hard low kicks.
As soon as the fight was over, promoter Ondřej Novotný had a clear idea. In his commentary he said that he definitely did not see Juráček winning. However, the judges saw it differently and Juracek won on points.
This, of course, did not please Pukač, who felt like a winner. He said it immediately in the cage, expressed his disappointment and justified it at the press conference.
“Whatever I say, it’s not offensive against Matusz, he didn’t score that game. But I think I won. I was tougher, I did more to finish the game. That’s why I considered myself the winner. Look what people think on social media, there you have the answer,” Pukac said.
But even Juracek, who said he pushed for two rounds, saw his win, although he admitted he didn’t put in an ideal performance. He argued for more significant strikes and holding the center of the octagon longer.
And what did the public say? As Pukac indicated, many people in the comments disagreed with the result. “Yuracek should get a performance for stealing the night,” read one disapproving comment.
In particular, the referee who scored the match 30:27 for Jurek stirred up the most controversy. The latter, of course, was accused of what services he had rendered to the scorer in exchange for this verdict.
In short, another controversial decision, according to some perhaps the worst in the history of the organization, although there were several “thefts” only this year.
