Speculation has been confirmed, Octagon is heading to more countries. In an interview with MMA Junkie, the biggest domestic organization confirmed that it will show in England next year and plans to show in Ireland as well.
“We are ready to expand our reach to England. It’s going to happen later in the year because when we go somewhere like this we want to bring something special so that we’re not just guests in that country, we want to be seen as a home organisation.
We don’t want to just come and go, but we want to get an audience. Of course, it’s a completely different market than, say, Germany. That’s what we’re working on right now. The Czech Republic and Slovakia have only 15 million people, so if we want to grow and improve in every way, we have to go to other countries.
So we looked at Germany, where the market is still in its infancy, but in England it’s different because there’s already an MMA trend and everyone is talking about it. In Ireland it’s similar. But there’s not as many events there.
We believe that England is still part of Europe and we want to be a European organisation. Our goal is to become a league of champions for European fighters,” promoter Ondřej Novotný revealed to the aforementioned website.
This is the next big step for Oktagon. He has already shown up in Germany twice and has at least the same number of events planned in that country for next year.
“We’ve been to England a few times to get to know the environment, meet the GMs, coaches and so on. We want to find out what the situation is like there. That’s the plan for next year. We have one more country there, which I don’t want to specify yet because we are yet to announce it. That will also be a challenge,” said Pavol Neruda.
In short, there is a lot to look forward to in 2023, and the organization will present some more news at the last tournament of the year, which will be held at the O2 Arena and will feature Filip Macek, Matěj Peňáz, Losene Keita, Alex Lohoré and Gábor Boráros.
