The Clash of the Stars organization has had another successful tournament and its fans are looking forward to the next one, but the date is still not officially known.
In 2022, we could see three tournaments that have steadily graded in viewership. More and more influential people have commented on the organization and now even Oktagon promoter Ondrej Novotny has mentioned it.
“The bizarro today just entertains people. There are a lot of things that bother me about it, of course. The crazy press conferences, it’s beyond everything, just to make it interesting, so I don’t know. It’s not something that’s out of my world and something I want to be a part of. But I respect that the times are some,” he said on the MMA Flying Through the World podcast.
“It has its buyer and it has its seller. In the end, I agree with Tomas that it may draw people to MMA who wouldn’t have looked at it, but then those people actually become interested in the sport itself. Not just waving in the air, insulting each other, instructed skits and in the finals something that no sport is,” he added.
But the tournament was not all bizarro. Several wrestlers gave good performances, with Hanka Gelnarová, Lukáš Tůma, David Olchava and Tomáš Križan deserving praise.
However, the Czech society has to get used to bizarre matches first. Compared to Poland, this is indeed decent entertainment that will entertain tens of thousands of spectators.
“It is interesting how different the approach is in each country. In the US, nobody would allow it. I heard that someone drank vodka before the tournament. It just wouldn’t get past the committees and so on. Then there are countries like Poland and us, where obviously everyone can do whatever they want,” explained Novotny, who is definitely not a fan of the organization.
However, he is aware that the two organisations can help each other. After all, the Clash itself will bring new fans into the combat sports world who will eventually buy into the Oktagon PPV.
The problem, however, may be the fighters’ fees, which are already often higher than in professional MMA. However, there is nothing that can be done about it, the bizarro simply sells more.
