Tuesday’s Champions League matches are over. Let’s take a look at how the fourth group stage matches went and which teams are currently closest to progressing. Shakhtar from Ukraine were the biggest surprise, while PSG also faltered.

Summary of the day

Borussia Dortmund hosted Newcastle and there was a lot at stake. The group of death, which also includes PSG and AC Milan, is a mess. The home side kept the game safe and won 2-0, boosting their hopes of progression.

The AC Milan vs PSG game was played afterwards and the home side provided us with some drama. AC won at home and are now third with five points. Each team now has one point less than the team above it.

Barcelona, like Dortmund, played Newcastle in the early evening and provided perhaps the biggest surprise of the day. In Hamburg, they lost 0-1 to Shakhtar Donetsk, jeopardising their chances of finishing in first place.

Porto managed to beat Antwerp 2-0 at home and have the same number of points as the team from Catalonia. The Belgians, on the other hand, haven’t gained a single point yet and it is almost certain that they won’t be able to climb out of last place.

Atlético Madrid shot with gusto at home and beat Celtic 6: 0. The visitors played with ten men from the middle of the first half. Lazio also won at home, beating Feyenoord for second place.

The situation in Group B is still interesting, with Atlético leading Lazio by one point and Feyenoord two points behind. Last place Celtic have just one point and their Europa League hopes are at a minimum.

Group G was also played and there were no surprises here. The qualifiers for the knockout stage of the LM are certain, with Manchester City beating YB Bern 3-0 at home and Leipzig beating CZ Belgrade by a 2-1 margin. Both losers are now fighting for the Europa League with one point.
