The quarter-finals of the European Championships are here! Already now the Czech national team has exceeded the expectations of domestic and foreign experts. The next goal is the semi-finals! In their interviews, Czech national players Vladimír Coufal and Jakub Jankto revealed what is to come and what is not, but the West Ham defender also revealed his inner feelings.
We start with the Czech Republic’s right-back, who followed up a sensational season in the Premier League at the Euros. His former coach at Slavia, Jindřich Trpišovský, told club TV that he sees Coufal as one of the best right-backs in the English league and he won’t be far from the truth.
Data from Stats Perform shows that Vladimir Coufal is extremely important for the Czech national team. In almost every game he has the most touches on the ball and even a true fan who follows football really closely must have visually registered that most of our build-up and combination develops from the right side.
in an emotional interview, the 28 year old spoke of national pride but also what would be a success for him!
“When you run with that flag, you feel national pride. You are proud of the whole country, the people who cheered for you and you think of your family. I would like to experience that again,” he said of his feelings after the match against the Netherlands.
“If we advance now, it will be great. We are not world-class footballers or great individuals here. Our biggest strength is that we can play as a team and that we can come together, so that is our biggest weapon,” Coufal continued.
“We are not satisfied, if we were satisfied, that would be the end of us. On the contrary, now that we’ve advanced, it’s made us more energetic and you want more and more, so I think we’re hungrier than we were before the eight-finals,” the national team right back said.
Jakub Jankto on Denmark
He dropped out of the starting lineup against the Netherlands and was replaced by Petr Ševčík. The question is whether Jaroslav Šilhavy will bring the fast winger back into the line-up or if he will stick to the saying “the winning line-up doesn’t change”.
Either way, Jakub Jankto has to be prepared for both the possibility of starting in the starting lineup and the possibility of starting a game from the bench. In his interview he focused more on our quarterfinal opponent.
“They play a similar style of play (as the Czech Republic). They press a lot, they run a lot, they don’t miss a beat, they all get back under the ball. It’s going to be about details, 100% concentration. If we play the way we are used to, we have a chance.”
“We will try to go further against the Danes and maybe surprise other people,” Jankto concluded the interview.
