Brito and non-participation in Tipsport Gamechanger? Promoter Novotný explains the absence of a champion in a spectacular project
Kaik Brito was supposed to be one of the biggest stars of the Tipsport Gamechanger project. However, Oktagon had to accept the fact that he won’t be participating. Promoter Ondřej Novotný revealed why this is so.
A great project full of fantastic fighters, this could have been a very interesting challenge for the Brazilian, he could have made big money. In case he conquered the whole pyramid, he would get a beautiful 300 thousand euros.
But now it’s clear that’s not going to happen. This was announced by both the Oktagon organization and promoter Ondrej Novotny, who explained the reasons why this is so.
“Kaiko’s manager and coach wanted him to be in Gamechanger badly, but he decided that he was still healing his hand from the fight with Kozma and left his hands untied. He’ll be defending his title later in the year,” Novotny let slip on his MMA Flight Through the World podcast.
However, that’s not all. In fact, if he were to participate in the pyramid, Brito would not be able to leave the Octagon during the project. Only John Hathaway has this exception, but his situation is specific due to his contract with the UFC.
“Kaik has one option in his contract to jump out of the Octagon and he wants to keep it open. We had a discussion about it. In a way I’m sorry, but what Uncle Dana (White, UFC boss – ed.) says applies here. If you decide you don’t want to be here, don’t be here. Kaik has chosen to stay under contract, he’ll defend against anyone and the moment we tell him, we’ll see how it goes,” Novotny added.
Brito himself previously revealed in an interview with Ruik that the UFC is currently pursuing him. In fact, he has been vocal about his performance for an engagement in the biggest organization in the world.
