Since 2021 Bojan Velickovic has been a permanent fixture in the Octagon. He quickly became one of the biggest stars of welterweight, he was even close to the title, which he did not achieve. However, the popular fighter can reach the big milestone he desires on December 29. Beyond that, he can come away with a fabulous win.
When the Czechoslovakian organization introduced the project, Bojan Velickovic was ecstatic. “It’s still vivid in my mind. It seems like yesterday. 16 tough fighters, all claiming to be the best. They all had high expectations,” he recalled in the documentary The Road to the Octagon.
From the beginning, it was the Serbian Prometheus who was among the biggest favourites. After all, he has experience in the UFC, he has measured forces with big stars. It is still remembered that he once defeated Jiri Prochazka, in the title fight, which he jumped into under unfavorable circumstances, he almost defeated David Kozma.
When he’s had time to prepare and is healthy, Velickovic is extremely dangerous. He has one thing in common with his opponent in the pyramid final, Andreas Michailidis. The star of both has taken off in their respective countries thanks to the Oktagon.
While Michailidis can boast of having conquered the Greek MMA scene, Velickovic has been compared to Serbian greats such as Novak Djokovic and Nikola Jokic. But he himself is modest and doesn’t even allow himself to make such comparisons.
You have to earn it, Bojan Velickovic is clear
Bojan, by the way, is a very sensitive person. His father, who has since passed away, accompanied him for the vast majority of his career. He gave me this perspective on life. He was my superhero. I think he would have been proud. I dedicate all my fights to him.”
He will go into his duel with Michailidis at the OKTAGON 51 gala as a slight underdog. He’s not afraid of that, though. “If you want to win, you have to earn it,” Velickovic is clear.
It’s worth noting that Michailidis revealed that he and Velickovic shared a dressing room all the way through the pyramid, and always kept each other happy. Last time they wished to meet in the final, which will now come true.
