Bayern Munich has once again strengthened its ranks with a player from the team of Dutch champion Ajax Amsterdam. After the arrival of Moroccan right-back Nousseir Mazraoui (more about him here), the talented Dutchman Ryan Jiro Gravenberch joined the Bavarian big club.

The 100cm tall midfielder has signed a five-year contract in Munich and should be a great promise for the Bavarian big club in the future. He is only twenty years old.

However, despite his young age, Gravenberch has already played 103 games for Ajax, including 14 in the Champions League and six in the Europa League. In that time, he has scored 12 goals and notched 13 assists for the Dutch club.

You can see his good performances in Ajax colours below.

At the age of 18, he also made his debut for the Dutch national team in a World Cup qualifier against Turkey. He has also already featured in two matches at last year’s European Championship against Austria and North Macedonia.

Gravenberch has so far hit the orange jersey of the Dutch men’s national team in ten matches, scoring one goal.

According to transfermarkt.com, Bayern sent eighteen and a half million euros to Amsterdam for the Dutch youngster, which seems like a bargain for Bayern given the estimated market price of the player (thirty-five million euros according to the same website).

The amount paid may not be the final amount due to possible additional bonuses. Its amount may have been influenced by Gravenberch’s contract at Ajax expiring in a year.

The Dutch international with Surinamese roots is a product of the Ajax football academy. He would certainly like to build on the earlier success of his compatriots Roy Makaay and Arjen Robben in a Bayern jersey.

Gravenberch plays as a classic number six or slightly higher in the centre of midfield. He is a tall footballer but with a fine technique on the ball.

The defensive midfielder position at Bayern is mostly played by Joshua Kimmich and several players have been substituted alongside him during the season. This is probably why coach Julian Nagelsmann wanted to strengthen his team in this position.
