Napoli face a tough Champions League quarter-final match on Wednesday 12 April at AC Milan. However, the current Serie A leader will miss its top scorer Victor Osimhen. Partenopei president Aurelio De Laurentiis spoke about his condition.
Italian media, including La Repubblica or Football Italia, published information from Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis on Tuesday morning, talking about the absence of Victor Osimhen in the upcoming Champions League match against AC Milan.
The latter confirmed after Tuesday’s training session that the Partenopei’s top scorer cannot hit the quarter-final match.
According to La Repubblica, De Laurentiis reportedly revealed to a Napoli supporter that Osimhen could miss another week.
“Victor is unfortunately not fit to play. We hope he will be back for the return leg at Maradona on April 18,” the club president said.
Other Italian media outlets are also reporting that in addition to Osimhen, Napoli could also be missing their number 1 substitute striker Giovanni Simeone. The start of Giacomo Raspadori is also in doubt at the moment.
As it seems, the Partenopei will go to the San Siro truly weakened. The twenty-four year old Nigerian striker has started twenty-three league games in the current campaign, scoring 21 goals and assisting another five.
Osimhen also helped Napoli significantly in the Champions League, netting three of his team’s five goals in the eighth-final against Frankfurt. As for Simeone, he is mainly coming off the bench and fulfilling the role of the number 2 striker.
In the current Serie A campaign, he has appeared in 19 matches, scoring three goals. On the Champions League ground, he has helped Napoli with four goals in seven games.
