Another inconvenience for Vemola’s rivals? Matavao may be the last time we see him, admits Oktagon management
Karlos Vémola is back in action and already on Thursday he got the first good news. His opponent, Al Matavao, had a problem with his knockdowns and so a new weight limit was agreed. However, the Samoan fighter didn’t weigh in either. What did the promoter Ondrej Novotny say?
Karlos Vémola is back in action and already on Thursday he got the first good news. His opponent, Al Matavao, had a problem with his knockdowns and so a new weight limit was agreed. However, the Samoan fighter didn’t load up either. What did the promoter Ondrej Novotny say?
Relief within the packed program. On Saturday Karlos Vémola will be in the cage for the first time since last summer and his form is to be tested by the huge outsider Al Matavao, who is not trusted at all.
Matavao probably has the only chance to win. To hit the chin with one of his first punches and send Vemola down. Other than that, it’s a smooth win for the Terminator and no wonder.
The Czech fighter wants to test himself before his closely watched duel with Patrik Kinclo. Originally, the fight with Matavao was scheduled at the arranged weight of 89 kilograms, which would have meant two difficult knockdowns in short succession.
However, in the end, due to Matavao’s problems, a new arrangement was made that meant both fighters had to fit into the 92 kilograms. Of course, that’s not great, but with more drops coming next month, it’s good news for Vemola.
While the Terminator easily fit the limit, having also learned of the weight change on Thursday, Matavao outweighed his weight by more than 3 kilograms on his first attempt. After another two hours, he was at least under the 95 kilograms limit.
Something like that was to be expected, though. After all, Matavao hadn’t weighed in for his previous fights in the Octagon. What did the promoter Ondrej Novotny say? Of course, he wasn’t happy.
“Karlos is taking the fight anyway. He knew about it since Thursday. Thanks to that, he saved the shaking during the crash. Anyway, it stinks of unprofessionalism. Four times in a row is a lot. Matavao arrived very heavy, he complained that he arrived a day late, but it’s too much,” Novotný told Sport.cz.
“We even put it in Matavao’s contract. But if you can’t reach an agreement with someone, there’s nothing you can do. For Karlos, the fight is about the test, not about the money he gets from Matavao’s weight. In short, Matavao is Matavao, and we’ll probably see the last of him,” the Octagon boss added.
