Oktagon has another tournament coming up. It returns to Oberhausen, Germany, on February 10 and can make up for the great event in Newcastle, which in some ways did not go as expected. Promoter Ondrej Novotny spoke about the great challenge that the Czechoslovak organization is facing.

Another year launched. The Oktagon has had its first gala, with the second taking place in just a few days. He intends to outdo himself again. He wants to break new ground, meet new goals, conquer some major milestones. Plus, he’s going to have the biggest gala in his history.

The expansion into the German market has been very successful so far, but the same cannot quite be said for the attempt to break into the UK market. Two galas were left with a bit of a bitter aftertaste. Oktagon’s eyes were too big for the first tournament in Manchester, which made the disappointment all the more unpleasant.

The second gala in Newcastle looked different. It was still far from ideal, especially in terms of attendance, but otherwise the positives were mostly prevalent. At least from the point of view of a spectator or journalist who attended the gala in person.

The promoter Ondrej Novotny briefly discussed the challenge of breaking through in England and outlined that Oktagon is in no way going to give up.

Oktagon and a huge challenge? We like it that way, says Novotny

“England is a huge challenge. I think that’s how someone at the foot of an insurmountable mountain, a wall, can feel. You believe in yourself, but nobody before you has done it. That’s how Pavel Neruda and I like it,” Ondrej Novotny commented on social media on the provisional course of the expansion.

“We don’t give a shit what others say. They always question you based on their own fear of failure. Newcastle was a great tournament in many ways. In some ways it was pretty na… But we knew that before,” the Oktagon boss let slip.

“In retrospect, I feel good about it anyway. Knowing the doors that were opened because of it, how it changed some important things again and the way we look at… We want to be the first to do that. And we will be happy for everyone who will go with us,” Novotny concluded the topic.
