The rematch of the fight of the century is coming by leaps and bounds?
When the biggest domestic MMA organization, Oktagon, announced a tournament in 2019 with the number 15, the sport became a phenomenon on the domestic scene and gained many new fans. The match of the century, in which two of the most famous fighters of Czechoslovakia were to measure their strength, generated a huge buzz.
Although Vémola was the favourite for the fight, holding a string of 11 consecutive victories, everything was different in the end. Attila, who was coming into the fight after an unexpected loss to American Zwicker, completely dominated the fight with Terminator and took the victory to his side.
We haven’t seen Attila in the cage since his memorable victory and he is more focused on training young talents, while Karlos is going for the coveted rematch and destroying one opponent after another in the Octagon.
After much speculation, it now looks like the rematch is coming by leaps and bounds. Both the main players, Végh and Vémola, have commented on the fight in recent days. What information did they reveal?
We’ve never been closer than now, Attila Végh entices fans
“We’ve never been closer than now,” Attila encouraged the fans on the MAX MMA podcast. “We are currently in the pre-contract stage, but the fight will definitely not be this year,” said the Slovakian fighter.
“I can’t comment until the Octagon makes a statement,” he said. “We have a very good relationship with Ondra and Pal (Ondrej Novotny and Pavol Neruda, promoters of Oktagon), we have known each other for a long time,” he explained the mysterious information about the long-awaited rematch
Attila also commented on his opponent. “He’s a golden boy, he’s an athlete and whatever he did or does, he does it to sell the fight,” he is aware of the Terminator’s trembling. “I’m his biggest fan, because when he wins, I’m the biggest carp, because I’m the only one who beat him here,” he added about Vemola.
All signs point to a rematch, Vémola joins
“I think it’s heading towards a rematch with Attila,” Vémola enticed in an interview with Fightlive. ” From what I’ve talked to Attila and everybody around here, it’s getting close,” he said of his coveted rematch.
“Even though there hasn’t been any public information about it, it looks like it’s on track to be a rematch,” Vémola gushed. Obviously, there is no bigger fight on the domestic scene at the moment, so all indications are pointing in a clear direction.
Karlos will now likely face a rematch with Patrik Kinclo for the middleweight championship belt at the end of the year. “It’s definitely not going to be as big a draw, it’s never going to have the resonance that the fight with Attila had,” he offered, comparing the two rivals.
