Liverpool have been struggling unexpectedly this season and are in a tough battle for Champions League places. Now they have to deal with an unpleasant problem. Virgil van Dijk will be missing for more than a month. Coach Jürgen Klopp confirmed this.

The Reds have been one of Manchester City’s biggest rivals for the Premier League title in recent seasons. But this season everything is different. Arsenal lead the league and we would look in vain for Liverpool in the top four.

In seventeen league duels Liverpool has collected 28 points for 8 wins and 4 draws and holds the sixth position. They are 6 points behind fifth placed Tottenham, who have one more game to play.

After the return of club football after the World Cup in Qatar, Liverpool have won two out of three league games. The last time they lost to Brentford, they lost 1-3. In addition, Virgil van Dijk had to be substituted after the first half.

Liverpool’s key defensive man was withdrawn as a precautionary measure. He was not expected to be seriously injured, he just didn’t feel 100% fit.

“In the end, the diagnosis was pretty harsh. With his absence we are talking about weeks, more than a month. I hope he recovers quickly, but he’s not available yet. We have other stoppers, so the team can cope, but it’s rough for Virgil,” Goal quotes the German coach.

“He has played an unbelievable amount of games over the last few years. Now he can’t use him on the pitch, but off it he will definitely help us,” Klopp added.

This weekend, Liverpool will face the third round of the FA Cup and therefore a match with Wolves. League games against Brighton, Chelsea, Wolves, Everton and Newcastle will follow.

21. on February 2, Liverpool will face Real Madrid in the Champions League. The Dutch stopper will certainly want to be healthy by then.
