A late finish to the Kozma-Brit fight? I know what David can take. As champion, he deserved all the chances in the world, said referee Vobornik
After more than four years, David Kozma lost the championship belt of the Oktagon MMA organization. On Saturday he was humbled by Kaik Brito, and in the third round the fight had to be stopped by the referee Jan Vobornik himself. The termination is a topic of discussion, as are Kozma’s words about being friends with Vobornik.
Although he was the favourite, he did not confirm his role. David Kozma fell to Brazilian Kaiko Brito, however the fight was stopped by referee Jan Vobornik, which many fans did not like.
The hall was silent, but Kozma was barely on his feet and it was a good decision for his health. After all, his team admitted it and then the fighter himself, who was badly bruised at the press conference.
Opinions vary greatly. Some say the stoppage was too early, others say the referee should have intervened earlier. What is the opinion of the referee himself?
“I know what David can take. As the reigning champion, he deserved all the chances in the world in his sixth defence. He got them and as long as he took them, I kept him in the match. I pulled him out of the fight the moment he stopped fighting.
He is capable of not only escaping but winning literally from behind, he caught a combination right from the start that “took” his legs and basically danced the fight to the end. He washitting shots himself, he had a pull on the goal and worked with his hands, but his legs just didn’t listen to him,” he said in a lengthy interview with iDNES.
His words are completely understandable. Kozma himself said at the press conference that he told Vobornik not to end the game early. Thus, there is talk about whether he is making prior arrangements with the fighters on how they wish to manage the fight.
“When I whistle someone for the first time, I find out how they have the rules down. Or I know someone is making certain mistakes, so I mention them. Of course, the fighter always has a chance to express himself and ask questions. David’s like, “Hey, you know what an asshole I am. Don’t pull me out too soon!” he explained.
A referee’s job is certainly not enviable. Everybody saw the situation differently, so you can’t please everybody. The most important thing in a given situation is that all parties involved agree to end the match.
