On June 17th we will see another Oktagon tournament. The Czechoslovak organization will head to Oberhausen, Germany for the first time. However, they have to deal with a big inconvenience. The main face of the event, Christian Eckerlin, will not attend the gala.
Oktagon already has another tournament on German soil scheduled for June and the whole gala has now got a huge crack. In fact, the biggest star will not take part in the OKTAGON 44 tournament due to injury.
Christian Eckerlin is an extremely important figure for the organisation’s expansion into the German market. He is very popular in Germany, and the Oktagon tournaments in Germany are mainly attended by his duels.
He hasn’t made a very good name for himself in Czechoslovakia, but he is an idol in his country and his absence at the gala can be a big inconvenience for Oktagon.
“It’s a bitter pill to swallow. I know you were looking forward to the Oberhausen fight as much as I was. We were ready to rock the arena, it’s just that sometimes life doesn’t play by our rules and we have to take the hard knocks,” Eckerlin announced on social media.
“The last few weeks, my coaches and I have worked hard day and night to deliver the best game you’ve ever seen, but the universe had other plans. My knee doesn’t want to cooperate and I can’t go in the cage if I’m not 100%,” the German added.
This Primera was supposed to be his opponent. But in the end, he’ll have to wait and see who Octagon gets to replace him.
Eckerlin then claims that it wouldn’t be fair to his opponent or the fans if he came in with health problems.
“I’m not looking for sympathy. I’m not a guy who just admits defeat. It’s a setback, but I will come back stronger. I apologise from the bottom of my heart. I promise this is not the end,” he concluded his statement.
