The last Saturday in February will belong to MMA in Nitra, Slovakia. The second tournament of the new FABRIQ MMA organization is planned. The fight card will feature two champions of OKTAGON Challenge projects, a popular returnee and a UFC veteran!
FABRIQ’s first tournament last fall was a success and the organization is taking a step in the right direction. Promoter, fighter and winner of the Match of the Century Attila Végh, who is the main face of the organization, at the very beginning presented the reason for the creation of another MMA venture on the Czechoslovakian scene.
“FABRIQ MMA was created so that MMA fans could attend big galas that will take place in cities where OKTAGON cannot reach. The organization gives young talents a place to shine and make their presence known,” he said in the past.
This idea is supported by the first half of the fight card, which will feature many Slovak youngsters. The second, later part of the tournament will feature some well-known names. Branislav Zuzák will be up against Matej Šurin.
The promoter Végh will also have one big masterpiece, as the tournament will also feature Eric Spicely from the legendary Canadian TriStar Gym, who spent a significant part of his career in the famous UFC. Although he retired last year after losing to Zdenek Polivka at OKTAGON 28, he will now return to the cage for the legendary Zebrinha.
“It wasn’t easy, but he finally accepted the offer and we are very happy to have him here,” said Végh about Spicely’s return. Three Czech fighters will also be in action. The talented Peter Gabal returns to action. “I chose Thailand for my preparation. The first week was very difficult for me to get used to the local conditions and humidity. It took me a while to acclimatize from the Czech winter to such warmth. But once you get used to it, the training is great.
I also met Khamzat Chimaev in the gym, although we didn’t pair up directly. But I fought a lot of great Chechens or even the ACA champion. I was able to measure my strength against the top guys and see how I was doing, it was definitely enjoyable,” says the representative of Reinders Gym.
Gabal was supposed to compete two weeks earlier in Munich at the first OKTAGON tournament of the year, but an injury sidelined his opponent and no replacement was found for Peter. Michal Konrad is back as well, and he will face a nasty Roman Paulus defeater Kadimagomedov.
“I approach my opponent with respect, I don’t underestimate anything, you can’t underestimate it in any match. It’s a challenge for me that he is a Dagestani, even if he doesn’t live in Dagestan. So I’m happy to go like this with a foreigner,” Konrad said about his fight.
The main draw for the crowd will be Miroslav Broz’s duel with Denis Farkas. The popular Inquisitor always puts on attractive fights and the organisers are expecting the same from the duel with the predatory Slovakian youngster Farkas. Brož recently signed a new contract with OKTAGON, having opted to return and re-transfer from RFA.
“This year I would like to do as many fights as possible, to show attractive performances and spectator-interesting shootouts. As far as training goes, I’m working on takedowns and ground and pound, trying to get more complex. I would like to perform at the O2 Arena and also at Štvanica, because I like Prague the most and I have the most fans here. I want to do these fights for them, that’s why I came back. I was drawn to OKTAGON and I’m looking forward to coming back,” said Brož.
The Fabriq tournament will also be spiced up by two winners of the OKTAGON Challenge, Roman Paulus and Gábor Boráros. It is the latter who will be in his next fight, having last appeared in a boxing exhibition against Václav Mikulášek at the O2 Arena, at OKTAGON 38.
Boráros is the one who is drawing most of the attention in Nitra. “Nitra is another beautiful city in Slovakia for me. I’m looking forward to fighting there because I’ve never fought there before. I want to win more fights. It doesn’t matter if it’s in OKTAGON, in FABRIQ, KSW or in the UFC. I want to be a successful athlete first and foremost, to be a successful person and father. I’m always working hard, it’s another motivation,” commented Boráros.
The FABRIQ MMA 2 tournament is scheduled for Saturday, February 25 at 5 p.m. You can watch it live on oktagon.tv.
