A football stadium in Frankfurt? After selling out the previous events, we thought it was time to go bigger, said Oktagon promoter Neruda
We learned some big news at Oktagon 55. The organization will return to Germany again in October, but this time it will head to the huge football stadium in Frankfurt. Why did the organization decide to do this and what number of fans would make it a success?
We learned some big news at Oktagon 55. The organization will return to Germany again in October, but this time it will head to the huge football stadium in Frankfurt. Why did the organization decide to do this and what number of fans would make it a success?
Although the Oktagon has been slightly stagnant in domestic waters, it has been growing steadily in Germany. It has now held a tournament in Stuttgart and announced a new tournament that has the potential to break attendance records. And that’s even if you count the summer tournament in Eden.
In October, the Oktagon heads to the Frankfurt football stadium, which has a capacity of nearly 60,000 fans. At the press conference, both promoters explained why the organization made this decision.
“Eintracht has an amazing stadium. It’s now two and a half years since we entered the German market and we have amazing fans, they love us and we want to deliver more and more exciting, interesting tournaments and bigger and bigger arenas. We want to be attractive for the fighters as well.
We’ve sold out the Festhalle, we’ve been to Oberhausen, we’ve sold out the Lanxses Arena in Cologne. And now we thought it was time to go bigger than we’ve ever been, to a football stadium and do something big,” said Pavol Neruda at the press conference.
“We know that the fans here want something like this. They know our fighters and they can taste something that only a few people can taste, which is fighting in front of 55,000 people. That’s what every fighter dreams of, not only in Germany, but all over the world,” he added.
Ondřej Novotný, the other promoter, also added his words and outlined a possible visit to the stadium. A sell-out is more of a dream, but even lower numbers would please him and be profitable for the organization.
“We have some plans and we will announce them, but we are modest. Dreams are big and we hope for 55,000. But if there are 30 or 40, that will be fine too…we are just trying to keep going, keep working, keep promoting…” said Novotný.
The next tournament is scheduled for April 20, when Oktagon shows up in Birmingham. Next up is a tournament in Frankfurt in May, followed by the biggest gala in its history in Prague’s Eden.
