Saudi Arabia, specifically Riyadh, will become the boxing capital of the world this weekend. Again. Will Tyson Fury have the luck he had in Riyadh against Francis Ngannou? That’s the question. After all, he now faces a top opponent.
The English giant will be challenged by Oleksandr Usyk. They both go into the fight undefeated. The Ukrainian holds three belts (WBO, WBA, IBF) and the Englishman one (WBC). For the first time since 1999, all the major titles will be unified in the heavyweight division.
The last time Lennox Lewis did it was back in the last millennium. Fury and Usyk, however, are ushering in a new era. The winner will become the first heavyweight king of the four-belt era. The excitement leading up to the fight could be cut to the bone. The importance of the fight is palpable.
There’s a lot of interest in this fight. Fans are eagerly awaiting it. Tyson’s father, John Fury, provided the spice, as he attacked a member of the opposing team, head-butting him and then bleeding from the forehead.
In addition, the Gypsy King and The Cat met on Thursday night at Staredown. Anyone expecting the boxing stars to curse each other with a look would have been wrong. Tyson Fury refused to look at his opponent. Oleksandr Usyk, for his part, never took his eyes off his rival.
Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk will make billions
The importance and size of the Fury vs Usyk fight will of course be reflected in the amount of money both fighters will earn. Billions are at stake. However, according to talkSPORT, the money will be split 70:30 percent in favour of the English star
Tyson Fury is set to earn $150 million, which is more than 3.4 billion Czech crowns. Oleksandr Usyk is expected to earn around CZK 1.5 billion. It is worth noting that he agreed to less money on the condition that the Englishman donates £1 million of his money, or about 28 million crowns, to help Ukraine.
