Monday’s 25th round Premier League fixture offered an evenly matched confrontation between Everton and Crystal Palace. The six-point rescue battle ended in a 1-1 draw after two second-half goals.

The match gained new momentum even before it started. Roy Hodgson stepped down as Crystal Palace manager and former Eagles player Paddy McCarthy took the bench temporarily. Oliver Glasner will then take over the team permanently.

After a poor start by Crystal Palace, full of inaccuracies, Odsonne Edouard had the first chance of the game, but he shot just wide from the edge of the box. At the other end Abdoulaye Doucouré tried his luck from outside the box but just missed the left post.

After the Toffees’ initial dominance, the game evened out, with 20-year-old winter signing Adam Wharton in particular looking good in the middle of the park. Dominic Calvert-Lewin could have struck for Everton, but his header in a good position just missed the left post.

In the 35th minute, Jefferson Lerma finished off a quick combination for the visitors, but he missed the ball ideally and missed well. Despite poor form and the absence of two of their biggest mainstays Eberechi Eze and Michael Olis, the Eagles took control of the ball and were more dangerous.

Crystal Palace lost their win at the end of the game

They went into the booths on a goalless draw after a fluent play after an inaccurate standard situation by James Garner closed the first half. After the change of sides, the tempo was a little looser, with Garner and Odsonne Edouard heading over on either side.

Goalkeeper Sam Johnstone scored twice in the 64th minute. First he cleared a header, then a cross from just outside the box. And two minutes later, Jordan Ayew scored from just outside the box into the left-hand post.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin then failed again with a header at the other end, but in the 84th minute the Toffees came close when Amadou Onana struck after a corner. Everton’s final push didn’t lead to another goal and Everton are just a score above relegation after a 1-1 draw. Crystal Palace have a five-point cushion.
