David Moyes could soon lose his coaching job at West Ham. It will depend on how his team handles the upcoming matches with teams fighting to stay among the English elite. A potential replacement could be the former Chelsea coach.
David Moyes could soon lose his coaching job at West Ham. It will depend on how his team handles the upcoming matches with teams fighting to stay among the English elite. A potential replacement could be the former Chelsea coach.
Disgraceful defeat
West Ham failed to beat Arsenal in the London derby in the 24th round of the English Premier League. The Hammers lost 6:0 at home, with three goals scored by former West Ham player Declan Rice.
West Ham have taken only three points from their last five league appearances, with only Burnley and Bournemouth worse off. On top of that, they were knocked out in the FA Cup by second-placed Bristol City.
It is no wonder, therefore, that speculation is beginning to swirl about the possible departure of experienced coach David Moyes. He is under contract at the London Stadium until the end of the current season, but until recently a possible extension until the summer of 2026 was in play.
But now his position is under threat. According to The Telegraph, the upcoming games will matter a lot. The team around Jarrod Bowen will challenge Nottingham, Brentford, Everton and Burnley in them. Three of them are heavily involved in the rescue battle.
West Ham currently occupy eighth place in the Premier League table with 36 points, just a score behind Newcastle. However, they are currently already ten points behind the cup positions.
Given the squad at the disposal of the 60-year-old coach, many fans do not like the style of play either. In it, players like Jarrod Bowen, James Ward-Prowse, Mohamed Kudus or Lucas Paquetá cannot reach their full potential.
Possible replacement of Moyes
It is likely that David Moyes will finish the current season as head coach. A possible change would probably not happen until the summer and the main candidate for the post is English coach Graham Potter. He is still waiting for an ideal offer since his failed engagement at Chelsea.
