After the first win, braver than ever. Irish rifle runs over Czech warrior, now Frimpong fires into other names and claims Tipsport Gamechanger

It is said that taste grows with food. But Denis Frimpong had a huge appetite before he got his food. He waited until Saturday to get his first pro win, when he beat Jan Široký on points in Newcastle. He had a lot to say before the fight and didn’t hold back. And after his first career win, of course, it’s no different.

When Oktagon set out to expand into the British-Irish market, it was to be helped by the Oktagon Challenge. A traditional project that helped in popularizing MMA not only in Czechoslovakia, but also in Germany. It also had great numbers in the Islands, but the boom hasn’t taken off yet.

Still, the Anglo-Irish Oktagon Challenge delivered great entertainment, interesting characters. The one that became most famous was the extremely confident provocateur Denis Frimpong, but he delivered what he promised within the show. He won, he made it to the finals. But he lost there.

Suddenly, he had a professional record of 0-2. That didn’t stop him from lashing out at rivals in his division, insulting whomever he could. He was trying to have fun, stir up emotions. He was doing that. Then he saw his opponent. He was challenged by Jan Široký in Newcastle.

The Czech heartthrob was perceived as the favourite, but Frimpong showed solid potential, also a big improvement compared to the first fight in the Oktagon, and he controlled the fight quite easily. He entertained himself, he entertained the crowd, he enjoyed the fight in all its glory. The irish warrior even allowed himself to put on a show during the fight.

He only won on points, but the first win of his career counts. And he’s no slouch. He wasn’t an easy opponent. After the fight, the Czech fighter acknowledged the quality of his opponent. He even said at the press conference that if the Irishman works hard, he has a very promising future.

Frimpong is even more confident after the win

If Denis Frimpong was ridiculously and unbearably confident for anyone before the fight, it went to blow him away by not having a win on his record. While it didn’t work for him as an argument, he will now be even more confident in his statements.

“I’m still hungry. I won’t be satisfied until I eat all these lightweights (he referred to Ondrej Petrasek and Tomáš Fiala – ed.). Feed me both of them in one evening. Or better yet, give me one in Birmingham, the other in the Garden of Eden,” Frimpong sent a clear message on social media.

“I notice your confidence has grown after winning, but so much so that you’re thinking of Eden? I doubt they want a boring guy with one win, but if they do, I’ll be happy to teach you good manners. I’ll beat you,” Ondrej Petrasek responded, referring to the Irishman as a clown in the message.

And what did Frimpong say? He caught on right away, “ You were absolutely dominated by the guy I was playing with. They definitely want me in Eden. Look at the numbers. I haven’t had a single boring game. Let’s go ahead and sign the contract.”
