There will be a constant battle between Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo in terms of football quality. However, in terms of internet popularity, the Portuguese phenomenon clearly has the upper hand. He earns 2.1 million euros per Instagram post.
Ronaldo and Messi have always been in a tug of war not only over football success, but also over who takes more money. As soon as one reached the top of the highest-paid player rankings, the other came up with an improved contract in no time.
Messi, however, was trumped by the Portuguese by going to Saudi Arabia, where he receives 200 million euros a year. The Argentine will earn between 50-60 million euros a season in Miami.
But everybody knows that the salary of star athletes today is no longer made up only of sporting achievements. They earn huge salaries, sometimes even more, from advertising and social networks.
Instagram pulls the most in this respect. Football, hotels, various medical clinics, specialty lotions, razors, cars… You’ve seen a lot of different ads on Cristiano Ronaldo’s profile.
According to Hopper HQ, the Portuguese footballer has recently become the celebrity who collects the most money for a single advertising post – 2.1 million euros. Ronaldo is followed by almost 600 million users on Instagram.
Thanks to this figure, he has leapfrogged the current queen of Instagram, Kylie Jenner. She charged $1.7 million per post.
Third on the list is Ronaldo’s eternal rival Lionel Messi, who earns 1.4 million euros per ad post.
Moreover, according to Forbes, Ronaldo became the athlete who made the most money last year thanks to Instagram. He earned 123 million euros from advertising posts.
The second highest paid footballer in the world was Kylian Mbappé, who earned €60 million per season at PSG. Ronaldo thus earned double that on Instagram.
