Neymar is technically better than Messi and Ronaldo, says the legendary Cafú. Brazil must play for him

Neymar was supposed to be the leader of Brazil’s new generation, the player who would finally bring a sixth World Cup triumph. But so far he has failed to deliver. According to legendary Canaries captain Cafú, Brazil must play for him.

Brazil is the most successful national team in the world. No other team has collected five world championship trophies. But it’s also a commitment, for the fans football is a religion and failure hurts enormously.

The last title came in 2002, since then it’s been quiet. The furthest Brazil went was at the 2014 World Cup at home, but they were whipped by seven goals from the Germans in the semi-finals.

If anyone knows how to succeed, it’s Cafú. The legendary Canaries captain has played in three World Cup finals in a row and lifted the trophy over his head twice. Plus, he has the most starts in the history of the Brazilian national team.

The new leader was supposed to be Neymar, who was given talent by the lord of god. But the skilful winger has failed to live up to his potential as a leader and has already faced a bit of criticism in Brazil. But Cafú is standing up for him.

“He is a phenomenon. Technically, he is the best player I have seen in the last 20 years. In terms of technique, he is better than Messi and Ronaldo and than any player you can imagine. We’ve always had confidence in him. With and without Neymar, the national team is a completely different thing. With him, the national team plays better,” Cafú told TNT Brasil.

“The problem of the national team is: Are we going to play for Neymar? Are we going to play for the Brazilian national team? That’s the question,” Cafú muses, recalling the way the team’s biggest stars were treated during his era.

“In 1994, we did it with Bebet and Romário, and in 2002 with Ronaldo and Rivaldo. We were so humble that we accepted to play for Ronaldo and Rivaldo. We said we’ll run for them, do our job honestly and let them run the offense and figure it out from there. And by doing that we helped each other,” explains Cafú.

He also adds that back then, everyone played for the team. Nobody cared who was the best, who scored the most goals. “What is missing now is for him to play for the Brazilian national team and make the Brazilian national team play for him. That would be the perfect mix and Brazil would win the World Cup,” the legendary captain concluded.
