From the very beginning, it was a great tug of war. Both tennis players had to fight hard on serve. Badosa took the opening break of the match.
But Vondrousova was able to react well and regained her serve with a clean game. This encouraged her and she started to play better and better.
She won a few balls thanks to her excellent defense. On the other hand, the Spaniard started to show signs of great fatigue and began to physically drop off. Vondrousova took advantage of that and didn’t let her opponent do anything. She won 5 games in a row and won the first set 6::3.
After that, the Spaniard requested treatment. The difficult conditions broke her and she totally collapsed on the bench. It was obvious that Badosa could not continue and had to retire.
Markéta Vondroušová coped better with the extreme Tokyo conditions and advanced to the semi-finals. She will play Svitolina, who outplayed Giorgi, in the final. The medal is close. Only one step to go.
