Liverpool are struggling this season with a poor start to the season. The departure of Sadio Mané to Bayern Munich, among others, is very likely to blame. However, Reds coach Jürgen Klopp has admitted to another mistake, which he says ranks among the biggest he has ever made.
Jürgen Klopp is struggling to break his curse, having experienced decline after spectacular highs during his seventh year at any club he has coached. However, it cannot be said that he has been entirely successful with Liverpool so far.
However, after a very false start, a slow rise can be observed. The fact is that the absence of Sadio Mané has had a noticeable effect on the team. The Senegalese was one of the main drivers of the Reds in recent years, his departure to Bayern marked the team.
Although the German coach was somewhat disappointed with the whole situation, he wanted to keep his star. But he sees something else as one of the biggest mistakes he ever made. Namely, a transfer that didn’t go in the direction of his team.
It was 2015 when Klopp took the reins at Liverpool. But just three months before that, another transfer had taken place. Korean talent Son Heung-Min signed for Tottenham. Spurs were expected to be more of a transfer outpost on his way to an even bigger club.
However, after seven years, Son is still with the London outfit. And that’s what worries Klopp. He wanted him in a Reds jersey. He admitted he was very interested, but he couldn’t get the player over.
“One of the biggest mistakes in my life is not signing Son. He’s fantastic. He is a symbol of Korean football and at the same time one of the best strikers in the world,” the German coach told South Korean portal KBS News.
South Korean fans are now worried about Son’s health. It is possible that he might not appear in Qatar for the World Cup. However, Klopp says that according to his reports, he is in good condition and could play with a face shield at the World Cup.
Son has become a legend at Tottenham in seven years. So far, the 30-year-old striker has 136 goals and 74 assists in 344 competitive games. He also became the Premier League’s top scorer in the 2021/22 season.
